WEDNESDAYS SUPERVISED PLAY 1.30 - 4.00
at New Haw Community Cent
re

The new Wednesday format of a short revision talk before the session has proved popular so we are going to continue with this format into the Autumn.

For those who haven't tried it yet, there is a short tutorial of 20-30 mins at the start followed by the usual supervised play session with a mixture of hands including some on the tutorial topic.

After the talk, the players divide into two groups in separate rooms, each with a teacher to provide help and tips on the bidding and play.    The smaller group is for new players who have been learning for less than 2 years. The main group is for people who have been playing for 2 or more years.

The topics for the coming weeks are as follows:

Wed 18 Aug - When to lead Trumps

Wed 25 Aug - More defence 'messages'

Wed 1 Sep - Third Hand Play in No Trumps, including Rule of 11

Wed 8 Sep - Planning the Play in No Trumps

Wed 15 Sep - Hold Up Play - Rule of 7. Why holding up / ducking works. Wed 22 Sep - Overcall and Suit Quality Test

Wed 29 Sep - Takeout doubles

Wed 6 Oct - Pre-emptive bids

Cost is £5.  No booking required.  Partner not required.  Just drop in!

SURREY NOVICE AND INTERMEDIATE TEAMS LEAGUES

This year I have stepped down from organising the Surrey Novice and Intermediate teams league, but I hope that a good number of teams from No Fear Bridge club and students will enter again this year!  Last year we had 4 teams in the Novice League and 9 teams in the Intermediate League.   The new organiser is Trevor Hobson (pictured above under Winchester weekend news!).

The leagues are organised into local groups of about 4 teams in the Novice league and 5 or 6 teams in the Intermediate league, so there are no more than 5 matches (3 in Novice League) to play over a period of about seven months from October to April.   As before, you can play your matches at the club if you wish.

The Intermediate league is suitable for Thursday or Friday players.  Wednesday players could enter either league depending on their level of experience.

Note: Entry to the Novice League includes a year's FREE MEMBERSHIP to 'Learn With No Fear Bridge' website for all team members  Entry fee is only £8.00 PER TEAM!
